Chief Executive Officer

Lisa McAuley, Chief Executive Officer of the Export Council of Australia (ECA), has worked in international trade for over 12 years. Lisa’s current term as CEO for the last 4 years has seen the organisation focus on ground-breaking research and advocacy projects that place the global competitiveness of Australian SMEs at the heart of all the ECA’s projects.

Lisa’s passion for international trade and respected voice in the industry puts her on the AmCham Trade Advisory Group and the Board of Yuluma Holdings.

In the last four years alone Lisa has passionately overseen the development of the ECA leading research and product development initiatives that have benefited Australian companies engaged in International Business.

Prior to joining the ECA, Lisa worked in various Financial Services companies both in London and Australia in marketing and communications and business development roles.

Lisa holds a Bachelor of Economics (Social Sciences) from the University of Sydney and is completing her Masters of International Business at UNSW.

Peter O’Byrne

Adjunct Professor, Faculty of Business and Economics, Macquarie University

Member, advisory boards of International Governance and Performance Research Centre (IGAP), Macquarie University Centre for the Health Economy, and South Asia Forum.

As a professional Company Director, Peter is widely involved in Australia’s commercial engagement around the world at a policy and service delivery level. His board roles have included the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade), the Export Finance and Insurance Corporation (Efic), the NSW Export and Investment Advisory Council, the Australia India Business Council, Australian Hearing Services and Reckitt & Colman subsidiaries across Asia.

Peter’s executive roles have included Managing Director of Austrade, Chief Executive of Australian Hearing Services (including the National Acoustics Library), Regional Director of Reckitt & Colman Asia as well Strategy Director, Reckitt & Colman PLC. He has worked in London, Jakarta and Singapore, as well as Australia.

Skills Development and Content Manager

Angela Wright's role at the ECA is to deliver programmes that will boost skills and knowledge in our industry.

Her work experience in the private sector spans across education, tourism, NGOs, and small business. Most recently she has been working in the development of training programmes for Australian businesses focused on international markets, particularly Asia.

Celestina Leong

Course and Events Coordinator

Before joining the Export Council of Australia, Celestina spent 5 years with an event management company where she organised and managed a variety of indoor and outdoor events and roadshows for corporate clients.

Prior to her career move to event management, Celestina was a Trade Commissioner with the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service in Brunei where her key roles included promoting Canadian agriculture and processed foods and information and communication technologies to the local market.

Collins Rex

Head of Product and Skills Development

Collins Rex joined the Export Council of Australia in June 2009 as the Victorian State Manager, with responsibility for managing the Export programs and activities in that State. Collins now heads up the ECA’s product and skills development teams.

Collins has over 25 years’ general management, marketing and communications experience. She has owned and operated her own businesses on two continents, and has worked as an award-winning radio and television broadcaster. For close on 20 years, Collins has specialized in the management of industry bodies and not-for-profit organizations, and she has coordinated and managed several major events, including the Interact Asia Pacific Multimedia Festival. Passionate about getting more Australian organisations, particularly SMEs, doing better business and onto the global stage, Collins has extensive experience working with Government, industry Clusters, and SMEs.

Collins is a graduate of Johannesburg University (formerly Rand Afrikaans University) in South Africa.

Heath Baker

Head of Trade Policy

​Heath joined the Export Council in 2017, as head of trade policy and industry engagement. Before this he spent four years at Austrade, with roles including manager of trade policy, State Director for NSW and the ACT, and Trade Commissioner in Seoul.

Prior to Austrade, Heath spent four years in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. Most of this time was in its international policy division, where his focus was medium- to long-term strategic policy advice. Heath also spent 18 months as an intelligence analyst.

Before joining government, Heath spent five years in investment banking, working with Macquarie, JP Morgan Chase and Credit Suisse First Boston.

Heath holds a Bachelor of Economics and a Master of International Studies, both from the University of Sydney.

Honor Iosif

Honor Iosif

Senior Events & Communications Manager (WA)

Honor joined the Export Council of Australia bringing with her extensive local and international experience in events and communications for a variety of government, tertiary education and not-for-profit organisations.

Career highlights include organising large scale community events in Texas, USA and being a member of the Royal Visit Working Group for the 2011 Royal Visit to Perth of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, while with the Protocol Branch of the WA Department of the Premier and Cabinet. Other highlights include writing speeches for officials and dignitaries aimed at audiences as diverse as excited children waiting for Santa, to formal ceremonial occasions.

With a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science, Honor enjoys combining the discipline of science with her more creative side to deliver exceptional communications and event experiences, such as the Western Australian Industry & Export Awards program.

Kristen graduated from Macquarie University in April 2013 with a Bachelors of International Studies. During her degree Kristen participated in exchange programs with the University of Geneva, Switzerland and the University of Strasbourg, France. In 2012 Kristen was accepted into the Australian National Internship Program, an applied public policy research internship in Canberra, at the Australian National University. Kristen completed her internship with the Hon. Senator Ursula Stephens, chair of the Senate Standing Committee for Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade where she undertook a research thesis on the potential sale of Uranium to India upon the request of the Senator. Following her Canberra internship Kristen interned as a researcher with the Export Council of Australia in late 2012 and joined the Council as a Project Manager in August 2013.

Marketing Manager & Executive Officer to the CEO

Kristina graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy at Serbia’s University of Novi Sad with a Bachelors honours degree in journalism in 2013.

During her studies Kristina won a full scholarship to participate in a year-long exchange at the University of Maine, United States. The US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs awarded her the scholarship, allowing Kristina to focus on journalism and new media. Following her graduation, Kristina worked at the Novi Sad School of Journalism, a non-profit organisation that focuses on public advocacy in human rights promotion and democratic reform, as well as educating media professionals. In the beginning of 2015 Kristina moved to Australia to start working for us.

Niels Strazdins

Head Research Manager

Niels graduated from Macquarie University with a Master of International Business as well as a Master of International Relations in 2014. Australia is the seventh country he has called home, moving to Sydney and joining aviation research and analysis firm CAPA Centre for Aviation after two years in corporate banking with HSBC in London. He joined the Export Council of Australia in 2013. A native of Toronto, Niels also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from York University. He has studied languages at the Freie Universität Berlin and Goethe-Institut Düsseldorf in Germany, Université de Nice in France, Universidade de Lisboa in Portugal and Dongseo University in South Korea.

Special Advisor- Skills Development

Peter has had a long career in international banking, having worked in senior trade roles with Westpac Banking Corporation, Citibank Australia Ltd and Bank of America Australia Ltd. He has also worked with Export Finance and Insurance Corporation (EFIC) in the credit insurance sales area; as a Director of Infocast Australia Ltd; and owned a business coaching franchise for a period. Peter has been working with the Australian Institute of Export and now the Export Council of Australia for over 7 years. Peter is also a very keen Toastmaster.

Rachel Irwin

Trade Policy Coordinator

Rachel graduated with a Bachelor of Arts at Monash University in Melbourne in 2013 and is currently in her final year of a Juris Doctor Law degree at the University of Sydney. As part of this degree Rachel is undertaking Masters units in International Import/Export Laws and WTO Trade Law.

Rachel has work experience in International Trade and Customs Law, interning at Gadens and Rigby Cooke Lawyers. At the Export Council of Australia Rachel has been integral to driving the ECA’s annual Trade Policy Recommendation report and drafting submissions to Government.

Research Analyst

Rachel graduated from Macquarie University in April 2017 with a Bachelor of Economics.
For the duration of her degree, Rachel was awarded a scholarship from ParaQuad NSW and during her studies received the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Ltd Prize. In 2016, she undertook an internship at the Export Council of Australia and joined as a research analyst in 2017.

Richelle Ward

Communications and Project Manager, Queensland

Richelle joins the Export Council of Australia with more than 10 years’ experience in the field of Corporate Communications. As Special Projects & Media Manager she is the Queensland representative managing the states most prestigious Export recognition program. Richelle also facilitates International Trade Skills education opportunities as part of the Councils key objective.

With a Diploma in Business Marketing and a Degree in Journalism, Richelle has represented one of Australia's leading online insurance providers as the National Media and Communications Manager. She has also worked for Queensland's largest electricity distributor Energex, implementing major infrastructure projects with significant community impact throughout South East Queensland. It’s Richelle’s passion for project management that drew her to the Export Council where she enjoys stakeholder and client engagement opportunities across Queensland, New South Wales, and Western Australia.

Susan Smit

Susan Smit

Senior Events and Communications Officer

Susan joined the Export Council of Australia to manage the Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards program. Before this Susan worked for Austrade for more than 7 years in a senior marketing and communications role, also working on the national export awards program.

Prior to Austrade, Susan worked in marketing roles for PADI Asia Pacific and Classic Blue. Susan also worked in research and policy roles for NSW Parliament and Tourism Council Australia. Susan has a Bachelor’s degree in Business in Tourism and Postgraduate Certificate in Interactive Multimedia.
